Brathay on Foula, 1956 (16’13”) – a silent black-and-white film of the Brathay Expedition Group’s first trip to Foula in 1956, showing the group visiting a Manx Shearwater colony, and ringing a Lesser Grey Shrike and Bonxies (Great Skuas); also includes images of island life

The Isle of Foula, 1959 (26’34”) – a silent colour compilation of footage taken by Chris in 1955, 1956 and 1959. Shows the people, scenery and wildlife of the island.

Foula Visit, 1959 (25’22”) – largely unedited footage (silent, B/W) taken on a visit to Foula with George Waterston to record a BBC Radio programme about the island. Shows the harbour, school, church and post office, plus islanders and Brathay visitors.


Foula slideshow (21’50”) – a recording of a slide-show of Chris’s photographs of Foula from 1954-55, with his commentary. Most of the slides show the way of life on the island at that time, including peat-cutting, the school, the harbour and the island under snow.


Return to Foula 1993 (23’26”) – edited footage taken on Hi-8 video by Chris on a return visit to Foula in 1993. Includes arrival by plane, views of the cliffs, the Sneck of the Smaalie, the Gaada Stack and activity at the harbour. Birds shown include Fulmars, Puffins, Bonxies (Great Skuas), Kittiwakes, Arctic Terns and a Red-throated Diver.
